Hello Gals and Pals,

I have had the idea for this card running through my mind since I received my latest Krafty haul. I knew I wanted the unicorns bouncing on some fluffy white clouds, also Kraftin Kimmie challenge this week is to make a White card!

I knew that the card had to contain a little bit of rainbow colour, because of the lovely sentiment I wanted to use on the front…

I coloured the unicorns white by adding gray’s and blue-gray shadows to make them appear more white. I then coloured their manes to match the pattern paper. Lastly, I added gold gel pen to the hooves, the crown, and the horn.

My Niece is turning 4 this week and I hope the whimsy of this card will make her look at it for at least a minute while she is opening all her pretty packages.

Lots of Hugs!

~Patti

The question of the week: What is your favorite mythical creature? Mine will always be dragons but a close second would be a phoenix.

Shine Bright Like a Panda!

Hi, Gals and Pals!

Today I broke out my Doodlebug and Some Odd Girl’s “Panda Nerd”

I love this cute little panda, and I designed my card to be a little bit fun for my Uncle.

Moving into a new house, my Uncle is the best! he has helped me change multiple light bulbs and actually had to help me fix the lights so that I don’t have to run up and down the stairs all the time to turn a switch on. (The people who owned this house did not know how to install 2 way light switches properly!)

I coloured the little panda after watching the animal class on how to colour panda’s and decided to add glossy accents to the glasses to make them shiny. Then decided on a layout for my card. I found the light bulb pattern paper in the doodlebug pack, and thought that would make him laugh so had to add that on the card, I then wanted the little nerdy panda to be holding a light bulb, So I actually cut out the lightbulb after printing it with my Silhouette and carefully cut around his hands so he could be holding it. I felt that the lightbulb needed a lot of shine on it, so I added Spectrum Noir glitter pen and then topped it off with glossy accents for that fun 3d effect.

Afterward, I glued all the pattern paper together and added a little bit of an inlay effect for more interest. I then went searching for a sentiment, I knew it had to be a pun on bright but I didn’t have any sentiments that matched. After searching for half an hour I decided it was time to “Frankenstein” a few sentiments so that I could make it say You are so bright.

I hope this card helps brighten your day!

Lots of hugs!

~Patti

Question Time: Are you a nerd? I have always thought I am a nerd one way or another and it doesn’t even bother me now. I think it is great that “Nerd Culture” is in and is a way to express one’s self.

Angie by Kraftin Kimmie’s

Hello Gals and Pals,

Today I made this card to participate in the challenge set forth by Kraftin Kimmie Stamps. The challenge was to use your Favourite colour!

I thought that would be an easy one. If you ask anyone they will say my favorite colour is purple… Nowadays though I feel like I have a spectrum of hues that change on a daily basis as my favorite colour.

At the end of the day, Purple/ Magenta (ok I am cheating a little by choosing two colours) is the colour I chose for my project.  I got to say that choosing pattern paper and cardstock to match was hard. When I went to find a cardstock to match the pattern paper, I had nothing… But that is ok I just took my Copic and coloured some express it paper to make an instant match! I love this for when I am struggling.

I coloured up Angie By Kraftin Kimmie Stamps as an Homage to my Nana. When my Nana greets us at the door you can usually find her in a fuzzy housecoat… I love this, because it makes her house feel like it has a more relaxed atmosphere.

The question of the week; What is your favorite colour? Maybe it isn’t an easy answer for you too!

Lots of Hugs,

~Patti

Ice, Ice, Bunny!

Hello, Gals and Pals!

Starting off the new year with a card made for my little nephew’s second birthday.
I had decided to try my hand at Watercolouring the cute little skating bunny from Kraftin Kimmie Stamps- Ice, Ice, Baby stamp set.

Using Zig real brush markers I watercoloured the bunny and his little outfit, I then sponged Tumbled Glass, and Mermaid lagoon distress inks to the background to give it a dusky glow. The bunny and ice rink were cut out and popped up with some foam tape to give the scene a little bit of dimension. I added a pop of colour by embossing trees onto scrap pieces of paper and gave it a less uniform look by cutting a thin border around the trees. Finally, I added a few sequin snowflakes, and a sentiment to the bottom of the card.

Gotta say I am not in love with the card, but one of the goals for me this year is to accept the flaws and move on. That is after I tried making the card 4 times on Friday… My mojo just wasn’t wanting to come out and play.

Little Tidbit: I am actually terrified of ice and in general I am not a fan of Winter period. I do like how pretty snow is on everything though so I accept it and wait out the winter for my favorite season Spring! what is your favorite season?

Please don’t mind my blogs pixie dust! I am working on my branding, and hope to have a blog that feels more like how I envision Patti Made a Thing.

Lots of hugs!

Here Comes The Bella Bride!

Hello Everyone,

One of the most requested themes last year while I was doing the St. Albert Farmers Market was for wedding cards…

Moment of truth time, I really struggle with the concept, probably because;

A.) I have never been in love (in infatuation yes, but never actually been in love)

and,

B.) I find my cute and colourful style doesn’t always fit into the classic white, neutral, with a pop of colour colour pallets that are the norm.

So this was a real challenge, until I stumbled across this pattern paper pack and focused on the style of papers I am usually drawn to, (cute dainty patterns with a mix of polka dots and stripes) and made it work with the theme.

Therefore resulting in Wedding Day Bella!

After that this card came together much like how I imagined, and to top it all off I was very happy with the final product.
I hope if you, or someone you know is getting married soon that they enjoy their wedding day as much as this happy couple!

Question Time! If you have been married/ or hope to some day what would your Wedding song be?

My Answer: I joke with my cousin that when I eventually do get married I should pick a anti love song (just for the shock factor and to have a good laugh) but in my heart it most likely will be something from the 50’s-60’s era.

Lots of Love,

Patti

Floating Down the Lake with Fiona!

Today is Day THREE of the June Krafty Peeks at Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps! I’m thrilled to be a Krafty Guest and join in the release fun! We are previewing a fabulous new stamp set by artist Annie Rodrigue called FLOATIN’ FIONA! So kick back your feet (much like Fiona is doing here) and float on through the Krafty hop!

The Details:

I coloured her up with a new skin combo that I really like for a slightly tan look, then coloured her hair… I love her hair for practising tight little curls. I will have to colour her up again soon so I can practice more. I then paper pieced a cute polka dotted bathing suit (my favourite kind of bathing suit!) and coloured the Dolphin floating in a dark aqua marine colour combo.

I decided to keep my card fairly simple. I wanted to make a slider card (wow! not as easy as I had imagined.) I was looking to also do a sunrise motif with Distress Ink, along with a secret fishy panel using the new paper pack we received in our kits finished off my card base.

I then added some puffy clouds (including one of the sentiments),  and a few lovely little enamel dots and a little sticker for the pull tab, I then called my card complete.

Not how I pictured it, but they say better to try and fail then to not have been creative at all. I think that is my motto in life!

This set (including 5 new coordinating sentiments) plus all the other new sets being previewed this week will be released on Saturday night!! Hope you can join us in this Hot new release!

Question: What is your favourite Summer activity?

My Answer: I love going up to my family’s Lake, and Sea-dooing with the cousins. Also those nights sitting around a campfire sharing silly stories, that turn into inside jokes later on during the year! are some of my favourite memories.

Oh My Gosh, I started a blog!!!

Hello World!!!

I really don’t know how to start an intro about me blog post, so I thought I would skip that for today and think of some interesting factoids about myself for the next post.

Last month I created a project inspired by my darling niece Sofia’s love for all things elephants. Of course as soon as I started working on her card she quickly changed her mind, and decided she loves puppies. I guess at 3 attention spans are limited.

I knew I wanted to make something special for her… a bit more “artsy” than my traditional style, so I turned to the ever distracting Youtube for inspiration. This led me to Laura Bassen (laurafadora.wordpress.com). She used a fun technique called Watercolour Smooshing.  I wanted to try this technique by adding white embossed hearts onto watercoulour paper, then I smooshed Tim Holtz Distress Inks onto a transparency and added water for an easy whimsical watercolour background. I added this too cute stamp from Kraftin Kimmie’s called “Dream Big”, which I coloured with copic markers.

I finished the card up with some homemade epoxy dots to add some matching embellishments, and then added it to my grey cardstock.

I decided to name the card set “Safari Sofia” after my niece.

Thanks for ogling!
