Do Mermaids send wish lists to Santa?

Hello Everyone,

Stephen on the Kraftin Kimmie Stamp Facebook page challenge us to use non-Christmas stamps/ Non-winter theme stamps to make a winter/ Christmas project.

I thought it was a perfect time to use a stamp I coloured in the summer on a Christmas project. I have always adored the gleeful expression on Serena Sparkles, she reminds me of a super excited child waiting to open her presents on Christmas morning. Maybe that is why I coloured her up in kind of a Christmas palette.

my concept was that Santa was delivering Christmas presents by floating them down to her in bubbles. So after using distress oxides and a bit of stenciling on this Ampersand Clayboard tile, I placed assorted Christmas stickers on the background, then used glossy accents to make the bubbles.

I heat embossed the sentiment at the top, then popped up Serena and added her Christmas Tree, presents, and a Xmas wish list.

Supplies Used:

-stamp: Serena Sparkles by Annie Rodrique for Kraftin Kimmie (retired)

-ampersand Clayboard tile (love these for mix media because they heat emboss like a dream)

– Distress Oxide in Salty Ocean, and broken China

– stickers from doodlebug, presents Are stamps from my favourite things

– tree from stash (unknown)

stencil Tim holtz

nuvo drops in white blizzard glitter, red berry glossy, sea breeze translucent

– glossy accents

– Recollections detail fine embossing powder in gold

All I want for Christmas is…

Hello Blog,

Wow! I am actually writing on the blog for the first time since May!

Again, hoping to post more! when I have the spare time.

I have a new project that I made tonight, the first in this years Christmas card series. This one is called All I wants for Christmas is books!

I came up with this idea using this week Kraftin Kimmie challenge: Talk Nerdy to me!

Betsy-Booklover-1_-wm

As a kid (let’s face it as an adult too) one of my favourite things to do Christmas morning is to curl up and read the books I have got for Christmas, and now I buy books for my niece and nephew to read to them!

Hugs to everyone,

Patti

Flushed In Pink with Some Odd Girl’s Narmaid

Flushed-in-Pink-Narmaid-by-

Hello everyone,

Today I am sharing my latest SOG project for this months review!

I had really set myself a challenge this month by colouring up lots of lovely little Some Odd Girl Mermaids, for our Facebook page.

One of our newest Mermaid is Narmaid! She was released just in time for Mermay 2018!

Narmaid-coloured-wm

I chose to colour her up in only the RV family as a personal goal. RV’s are some of my favourite markers and I knew she would look stunning in the bright colours. I had a little mishap with my RV99, so I had to cover her horn in a gold gel pen, but at least this was a happy accident because I felt the gold worked well with all the pink.

I hope you like my little Narmaid all flushed in pink.

Oodles of hugs,

Patti

Today I want to share a project using the Kick Assy Birthday stamp set that Melissa Baker-Nguyen created for Kraftin Kimmie Stamps.

I paired it with Carly Cupcakes to make a fun and simple birthday card… Or really any day like the stamp set says ” Cake because it must be somebody’s birthday somewhere! maybe they are celebrating a Happy Unbirthday.

I coloured up the stamp with my copic markers and then used a new to me die to cut out the speech bubble at the top of the frame. I then heat embossed in white the sentiment and added fun pattern paper and twine, also a dab of Nuvo Crystal drops to add a bit of the confetti look on the sides.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy the different array of stamps in the new Kick Assy Stamp Set as much as I did… Not only are they perfect for birthdays they also have a lot of use for other occasions as well.

Lots of hugs,

~Patti

My Crafty New Years Resolutions for 2018

Hello Gals and Pals,

I am always excited when a new year starts. Beginnings can be a great way to feel refresh and conquer things you may have been putting off for one reason or another.

I always make New’s Year’s resolutions, and sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail miserably, but the point is to try and improve the things I need to work on.

Although 2017 was a big year creatively I do feel like I need to push myself further in a few different area’s and here is what I am going to focus on this year:

1. ) Improve my grammar/ spelling– If you have been reading my blog (including this post) you probably aware that grammar is not my forte. Even as I wrote this sentence I spelled Grammar wrong twice.  In order to improve on this, I will be spending some time with a book we have at work that can make grammar and spelling easier. I hope this helps! Another thing that will help me improve is my 2nd challenge of the year.

2.) Become more consistent with my online content:  I do want to blog more, share more works in progress photos, and even eventually do some colour along with the Facebook community. A key thing that consistency needs though is my 3rd challenge.

3.) Become more organized:  I have a bad habit of not hitting deadlines on time, and spending way too much time trying to find ways to procrastinate cleaning my craft room. This year I want to make sure to clean my crafty area after each project is done, and destash some of the crafty goods I am hoarding, this will make it easier to achieve challenge number 4.

4.) Colour Daily:  I want to create a daily habit where I spend at least 15 minutes colouring something…. Even if it is as simple as adding colour combos to my copic colour combo journal. This has been something I wanted to achieve for over 2 years and it isn’t that I don’t have time, it’s that I procrastinate too much, or I get sucked into watching stuff online. Accountability will play a key role in this, so I am planning on taking a photo each day of what I coloured and post to Instagram. That way I can improve my skills and practice new ones. Speaking of which…

5.) Experiment with different mediums:  I really want to try colouring with pencils, watercolours, and even play with some different colour combo’s that I don’t normally use. Sometimes I feel stuck using my copics all the time, or I find I play it safe too often. By starting to play with new mediums I will be able to “exercise my creative brain”

6.) Lastly I want to still work on my project 52 notebook, but instead, I decided I will stop pressuring myself to complete detailed layouts and just add a bit of what I have been doing each week to it. This way If I am just colouring an image without any intention of using it on something I can glue it in the book and see the progress I have made throughout the year. I want to put them in the journal so I can do a flip through at the end of the year!

Phew that is a lot of challenges this year! but I am excited to see my creative dreams take hold!

For one can only soar in her dreams and ambitions! (or something similarly cheesy!)

Lots of hugs,

Patti

2017 Top 5 Projects

Hello again,

As stated in my wrap up, I want to share my favorite projects of 2017!

It was hard to narrow down to just 5 projects, but I picked 5 that were special to me, or that I felt I learned a lot from.

5.

a-bunch-of-monkeys--Patti-W.jpg

This was a card that came together exactly how I had envisioned it. This usually doesn’t happen! I wanted to make a Thank-you card for my Sis-in-law’s Best friend who had to take care of my Niece and Nephew for a weekend while they were photographing a wedding. The recipient loves Monkeys, So I wanted them to represent my silly little Niece and nephew….. I love that Ollie is holding a banana as it is Magnus’s favorite things in the world (he actually asked for banana’s for Christmas!)

Hula-Mae-by-Patti-2-wm.jpg

I really am proud of this project. To be totally honest I struggled with this one of the most. I knew I wanted her standing on the Aloha with a sun behind her and some large palm trees surrounding her. I really have a hard time placing elements when I make scenery cards, and I know it is because I use pattern paper as a crutch sometimes. When this canvas finally came together I was very pleased. I did note that my Aunt who received this as a gift was looking at how I made the Aloha stand out (just wish I had put the brown back behind the O)

Playful-Unicorns-with-water.jpg

Another card that came out exactly as I envisioned. I love these little unicorns/ ponies from Kraftin Kimmie stamps, and I knew they would make the perfect little girl card. I love how they are bouncing in the clouds with a rainbow sunburst behind them! I am particularly proud that I got over my fears of colouring white!

2.

Week-2--KC-Prisma-Red-Panda.jpg

This was a special piece to me. Kit and Clowder gave me a gift certificate to complete one of the monthly classes as a prize for doing some of my lessons. I knew right away I wanted to try my hand at colouring with my prisma coloured pencils, but as soon as I saw this stamp with a red panda I knew this would be one “just for me” Red pandas are my favorite animal, and I love how vibrant this one turned out.

Stamp by Ching- Chou Kuik (note sells on Etsy, has so much wonderful fantasy art)

Class by: Alyce at Kit and Clowder (Not only is she an amazing teacher she has helped me improve my art skills immensely over the last couple years! note: this class is only part of a subscription service that I am signed up for the monthly marker class. You can only access the project classes if you are a monthly subscriber)

Lets-Be-Mermaids-Canvas-Pat.jpg

My favorite project I made in 2017 was this splendid mermaid project for my Auntie! Probably the most “mixed media” of any of the projects this year, I used: distress ink oxide, paper, paint, copics, pearlescent watercolours, stickles glitter glue, liquid pearls and beads! Although not my usual style I actually love the distressed look of this project. I was very happy how my mermaid turned out, and my Aunt actually squealed when she saw this! She is a big mermaid fan and loved that the mermaid was named mermaid queen (as she likes to think she is a mermaid queen herself!)

Well that is a wrap on 2017, looking forward to meeting new crafty goals in 2018!

Lots of hugs,

Patti

2017- A Crafty Reflection

Hello, Gals and Pals!

As a New Year is approaching, what better way to start it by reflecting on what a big year 2017 was for me.

On January 30th it was announced that I would be joining The Some Odd Girl Design Team! I was very excited to join, as one of my crafty goals was to make it on a Design team. The girls on my team are a bunch of very lovely, creative ladies, who have really inspired me over the past year. I have a bunch of crafty goals with this Design Team heading in the New year that I hope will push my crafty adventures forward!

Another goal I had in 2017 was to work on Mix Media projects. I have had a lot of comments in the past that people love my cards and don’t want to give them away, so they display them on shelves. Paper doesn’t last forever though so I came up with the idea to make my art more permanent. Canvas tiles let me do this, but they still fit the standard size I like to make my projects in, and I can still create with my graphic, clean style that I love.

Coffee-Mae-Canvas-by-Patti-

Here I made a Canvas for my Sis-in-law who loves coffee. It may look like a card but with the addition of a hook on the back of the tile she can now hang it in her coffee nook

Stamp: Coffee Lover Mae by Some Odd Girl

Lastly, I wanted to focus on colouring with more vibrancy and contrast, to do this I really honed in on deeping my shadows and leaving room for hi-lights. In the past I have struggled with this and although it will always be a work in progress, I am happy to say that in the first time in a while I am truly happy with most of my colouring.

TREX-by-Patti-colouring-WM

I love the contrast I achieved on this dino. I really amplified the dark cast shadows and added hi-lights where they were supposed to be.

Stamp: T-Rex by Some Odd Girl

In my next blog post, I shall post my Top 5 favorite projects I made in 2017! It will be a more countdown style with quick little notes about each one. Then Tomorrow I will share my crafty goals for 2018! (hint one of them is to stop neglecting this blog)

Lots of hugs,

Patti
