Project 52: Week 1- Meet Patti

Week 1- Meet Patti

Hi Gals and Pals,

I hope you stopped by and seen the first post about my new creative journey! (warning long post- I want to jot down all my ideas so that others can see what I have done)

I am going to do an art journal layout each week, and the first laout I wanted to make a post kind of introducing who I am… If someone finds this journal in the future I want them to get to know me starting with what I like and what I dont like.

I started off by adding this cool tissue paper that had ombre foil polka dots. I glued it down with Multi Matte Medium, this proved difficult, because I found the liquid glue ended up warping the paper (making it curl) this will be a problem if it keeps happening… so I made note to look up other art journal artists and see how they fix this mistake.

I then added a lot of stickers, thickers (for the title), and Journal squares.
In each journaling block I journaled my Likes (smitten what I dont like (I don’t get) and what I am also known as. This was fun and I love how the smitten one has arrows pointing toward the digi smiling (almost like a reminder that I want to be more positive in life) and that the digi looks like she is stomping on the what I dont like.

I hope you can read the journaling… But if you cannot here is what it says!

Smitten (what I like): Red Pandas, ice cream, cuddles with Cobi, being a proud Hufflepuff, polka dots, smell of lilacs, being helpful, bright fun pattern paper and stamps, podcasts

dont get: (what I don’t like): intolerance, hate crimes, spite, disease, anxiety

Also Known as: Cobi’s owner, Auntie Patti, Patti-cakes, Fangirl, EchoFeather, Candihearts, The cardmaker.

Lastly I coloured the digital stamp (Puppy Gwen by Some Odd Girl Stamps) I wanted her to look like me, so I added glasses on her eyes and coloured her hair and clothes in something I would wear… I then wanted to turn this chihuahua puppy into Cobi (when he gets his hair cut he looks mostly like this, except the ears) I think she may be my favorite thing on the layout. I love how the more of this journal square is pointing at the digi me smiling (meaning remember to be more positive) and that she is stepping below her the things I dont like.

I hope you like this layout, and if you are a crafty person I will take any and all tips on how to do this, any help I will truely appreciate.

Lots of hugs,

Patti

Project 52 Introduction: Soar!

Hello gals and pals,

I am starting a new adventure! and it is both thrilling and also intimidating…. It is called Project 52!

Each week I will attempt to put some art down in this art journal that my lovely, wonderfully talented Cousin made for me!

Front Cover

I even have a theme for this journal: I am calling it Soar! That’s why I thought the cute little airplanes would be perfect for the front cover. I will be adding the title in big block letters once I have a better picture of what I want on the front cover.

I like using the word soar to imagine my creative journey taking new heights! (cheesy I know) I want to use this journal to challenge myself with new art mediums, new techniques, and to journal my thoughts and feelings. I am hoping to look back and see how much I improve/ change my art with the ideas that pour out of here.

I hope you will join me on exploring this creative journey!

Lots of hugs,

Patti

April Project Wrap Up!

Hi peeps!

I have been trying to work on loads of projects so these wraps ups have been a little bit ignored…. Oops!

April saw me exploring a challenge that has always been in the back of my mind… That is mix media Canvases! I have had a lot of people say your cards are beautiful…. so much so that they do not want to throw them away… I have always thought it was a little silly as normally cards are kind of a temporary thrill. When my grandmother said she leaves them in a basket but was running out of room, I knew I had to think of a way to make my cards become little pieces of art.

I started with a canvas for my Grandmother using Some Odd Girls  Gardening Mae to make a fun floral layout. I did have a bit of a struggle with the canvas… such as how do I add the image to the canvas, I also was hoping for a more wild flower look, But I then realized that both my grandmother and this little digi would be planting and taking care of flowers from the little seedlings.

I am really happy with how sunny and bright it turned out, she was also very surprised that it wasn’t just a card but something extra special I made for her.

Next up I made a quick birthday card for my co-workers birthday. I am pretty proud at how much he looks like Bucket our clinic cat… The tabby stripes actually added a nice texture to his fluffy fur! Stamp from Some Odd Girl- kitty hopper

Lastly I have a card I made for my boss… I think they need to stop all having birthday’s in April! anyways she was heading to Hawaii and I thought Some Odd Girl Tropical Mae would pair perfectly with a watercolour background…. Also a first!

This card turned out so bright and colourful! did not realize that my new Zig clean color markers were that bright!

That’s it for April!

March 2017 Card Wrap Up!

Hi Gals and Pals,

It looks like I did post 1 or 2 projects in March, but as I scroll my social media I didn’t post all of them.

While I was house bound with tons of snow, I had visions of what Spring would hold!

Starting with a Just Because card for my Some Odd Girl design team.  I found papers that really had me dreaming of spring flowers! and matched with Chill Kaylee.

This is one of my absolute fav Kaylee stamps, I love the pose she is in, her cool outfit, and her lovely face is so much fun to colour. I knew I wanted her grounded on the sentiment banner as I felt she needed to be sitting on something. I also gave myself the challenge of being inspired by a card from the past. In the previous card I used brads and decided that to be fair to the rules I set out for myself I better use brads on this one! I went through my old stash and found these adorable butterflies that paired so well!

The funny thing about this card is I coloured it up with my Sis-in-law in mind, when she saw it sitting on my card wall she was immediately drawn to it! so I gave it to her right there and then! that is the beauty of a just because card!!! it doesn’t have to be a special occasion for you to give some handmade kindness!

The next card I made was inspired by a new image that Some Odd Girl released called Dancing Piper!

Dancing-Piper-with-WM

I was inspired by all things glitter and bling! I really wanted to make a shiny card (almost like a disco ball) and thought Piper would look really amazing decked out in the middle of a graphic layout! I had decided to challenge myself to use copic combos that I do not normally use, including a dark rich mocha skin tone, and some grey/ blue jeans (my perfer colour of jeans for myself!) I was extremely happy with my colouring of her clothes, something I really struggle with in the past. I did end up with a bit of an oops by overblending her face. Got to remember that the light copics will bleach the skin if applied once it is dry! I will try this skin tone again though because I feel like it is nice to have a variety of different tones to work with!

Last project I made for March was a really adorable bookmark! Using Nerdy Chihuahua by Some Odd Girl!

Nerdy-Chihuahua_ Patti

a cute little bookmark using the adorable Nerdy Chihuhua by Kristy Dalman for Some Odd Girl Stamps

This is by far my genius moment come to life! I have dreamt of making cute little bookmarks with stamps for a very, very, very long time! I think everyone needs bookmarks every once in a while (myself included!) and when I saw Nerdy Chihuahua I knew right away I wanted to figure out how to make a magnetic bookmark! (click on the link for a how-to tutorial) I will definitely be making more of these! they also would make great gifts to give out to friends and family So I will be making a big batch one a day off to have on hand to give out!

I ended up carrying the bookmark in my bag all weekend without any issues! then as a random act of kindness, I gave the bookmark to a client at the vet clinic, since the chihuahua reminded me of her little furry friend!

That was the projects I completed for March! Tomorrow I will be sharing Aprils!

Until Then,

Lots of Hugs

Card Wrap Up Intro (It’s been a while)

Hi Gals and Pals,

I realized that my little lovely blog has been super neglected! Facebook and Instagram get updated everytime I have a project because it is easy… But both Social Media’s I only write a short blurb, I made this blog so I can share my love of cardmaking.

That being said, where do I start? do I just post the next project and ignore the many wonderful projects I have made? or do I do a wrap up giving a little bit of love to each project, then the next new project give more details…. I decided on the latter. Each day this week I will be writing up a blog post for a wrap up of each month.

Coffee time!

Hello Gals and Pals!

I have something a little different to share with everyone today! My very supportive Aunt had asked me to make some going away cards this weekend for her 11 co-workers!

I didn’t have any gender netural cards, as most of mine do have some sort of character on the front of them.

I pulled out Tim Holtz Coffee Blueprints and embossed each watercolour paper with black embossing powder. I wanted to make sure that the watercolour wouldn’t react with the image, and I really wanted to make sure the stamp was bold on each image. (Since the stamps have the cute blueprint notations on them)

After embossing I pulled out my little distress cubes and Zig real brush markers to smoosh ink in a loose watercolour look. I kept the card design pretty simple, letting the emboss image make the biggest impact. Of course, I did have to add a sprinkle of little sequins or homemade epoxy circles.

I had fun making these cards and I hope you enjoyed looking at them as well!

Lots of Hugs,

Patti

Question: Are you addicted to coffee? Other than Ice Capps I actually do not drink Coffee much.

My Answer: Other than Ice Capps I actually do not drink Coffee much. I am addicted to coke cola though so I get my caffeine buzz that way!

Hello, Gals and Pals!

Welcome to the Some Odd Girl Valentine’s Day Hop. I am the first stop on the Blog Hop! You can scroll to the bottom of this post to see the full list (just click on the next name to go to the next blog!)

I usually do not celebrate this holiday as I have no significant other in my life…. so instead I am celebrating Galentine’s Day!

galentines-day

I decided to make a card using Mae and Kaylee Selfie for my Best friend, who truly is one of the loves of my life. I have been friends with her for over a decade and our friendship will never stop. So just like Leslie Knope (who by the way is an avid scrapbooker/ craft maker), I challenge you to have your own Galentine’s with your Bestie or group of friends to celebrate. Maybe make her a Valentine’s as well.

Inside the card I am going to put Will you be my Galentine? and then make a cute checkbox with Yes (then let’s get waffles) or No (Then no waffles for you!)

Be sure to check in and comment on each blog, including this one, to be the most eligible. Since we’re spreading the love so hardcore, everyone gets 14% off at the Some Odd Girl shop using code SOGLove! )But, we’ll also be choosing 2 lucky winners from those of you who comment on every blog, each receiving a $14 spending spree in our shop.
Here’s our hop list…

Lots of Hugs!
